Accelerating Software Delivery

Working at Electric Cloud

Small enough and big enough to make a difference.

Small enough. As a 100-person company, whether you're developing a new feature, or helping a customer, your contribution is important — starting on day one.

Big enough. We have huge customers. What you create here affects how cars are made in Korea, mobile phones in Sweden, and the most sophisticated medical devices are developed in the United States — to name a few.

"Electric Cloud helps so many companies deliver software in products we use on a daily basis — from our cars, mobile phones, and online retail stores to medical devices, stock trading, and internet connectivity. It's good to know that, indirectly, I'm making a difference."
Christine, Senior Marketing Manager at EC
"I love the people. We hire the best and trust them to deliver world class products and solutions. The talent under one roof is amazing!"
Ken, Solutions Architect at EC
"The health benefits have been great for my family. When I talk to my friends I find that EC's benefits are as good as, if not better than, theirs."
Julie, Office Administrator at EC

"Official" Culture

Our company culture was written by John Ousterhout and is an integral part of the company to this day. You'll hear people reference it in meetings or even in the middle of a conversation in the lunch room.

Here's the high-level overview:

  • It's okay to make mistakes
  • We want to know about problems
  • Success = execution + consultation
  • Get lots of input and then move forward quickly
  • Assume that everyone is a "reasonable person"

For the complete culture document, see John's web page at Stanford. NOTE: John was a UC Berkeley professor for many years, and now teaches Computer Science at Stanford.

"Unofficial" Culture

Because of our open environment, you are sure to meet people on your first day of work! It also makes it easy to collaborate and get instant feedback on new ideas.

Our 'best places' committee keeps us on track for celebrating major (and minor) holidays as well as company milestones.

Throughout the year we give back to the community via employee contributions to Second Harvest or gifts via the Family Giving Tree.

During the summer we have company BBQs where each group takes a turn to be in charge, whether that be barbecuing or ordering pizza!

From the very beginning we have had doughnuts on Wednesdays. Even though we are trying to be healthier, it's a tradition that we aren't willing to break!

Some people go out to lunch in nearby Sunnyvale or Mountain View. But mostly, we eat together in our lunch room and enjoy casual conversation.

When looking for a job in the Silicon Valley, it's really important to make sure that the company offers good benefits (especially start-ups). Because some companies grow so fast, they sometimes forget essential things like health care and life insurance. At Electric Cloud, we have a team of people that make sure you are taken care of.

Some of the perks & benefits that we offer:

  • Competitive salary with the possibility of equity participation and a 401(k)
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage for you and your dependents
  • Flexible spending accounts for health and dependent care
  • Disability and Life Insurance, with the option to add additional coverage
  • 15 days of personal time off (per year) to start, 20 days after 3 years and 25 days after 6 years (AND - we don't count personal sick days as PTO!)
  • 10 paid holidays per year
  • A choice between a Mac or a PC when you start
  • A fully stocked kitchen with all of the snacks, fruit, and soft drinks that you could desire
  • Complimentary access to a local Sunnyvale health club
  • HQ is about 1 mile from Cal Train and downtown Sunnyvale and 3 miles from downtown Mountain View — making it convenient to take public transportation and to meet your friends for lunch!
