Electric Cloud Releases Unique Visibility Tool to Diagnose and Repair Slow or Broken Visual Studio Builds

- ElectricInsight™ 3.5 delivers fine-grained visibility into software build structure and performance, support for Microsoft Visual Studio and other new features -

Mountain View, CA, June 14, 2006 — Electric Cloud today announced ElectricInsight 3.5, the first build diagnostics tool for Microsoft® Visual Studio® builds. With this new edition, ElectricInsight enables software development teams using Visual Studio to troubleshoot and optimize their builds for scalable performance and maximum build speed. ElectricInsight works in concert with ElectricAccelerator 3.5, the Company's software build acceleration product.

Builds have typically been "black boxes" in development organizations, with only a few key people able to manually analyze errors and adjust for better performance. There has traditionally been little visibility into why a build was slow, why a build broke, or what dependencies were involved.

For the first time, ElectricInsight shows Visual Studio developers how the build is actually structured and run, empowering everyone on the team to pinpoint errors or conflicts in a parallel build. ElectricInsight mines the output of a build in order to graphically depict its structure, providing an easy-to-understand, graphical representation of the build for performance analysis and debugging. With detailed information and reports on each job, ElectricInsight users can more easily identify which jobs are being performed, exactly where dependencies lie, and where performance bottlenecks may exist for at-a-glance diagnostics.

ElectricInsight 3.5 eliminates the time-wasting task of pouring over tens of thousands of lines of information in a build output file to find problems. As a result, error detection and performance tuning that once took hours or days can now be done in seconds.

"We are pleased to extend the visualization and troubleshooting benefits of ElectricInsight to Microsoft Visual Studio developers," said Mike Maciag, Electric Cloud CEO. "In addition, the other enhancements to ElectricInsight make it a more simple, useful and powerful diagnostic tool for all software development teams."

Powerful Features in ElectricInsight 3.5
ElectricInsight actually shows developers how the build is structured and run, empowering everyone on the team to pinpoint errors or conflicts in a parallel build. New enhancements now available with ElectricInsight 3.5 include:

  • Unprecedented, job-level detail that highlights waiting jobs and specific dependencies for each job;
  • Simplified searching that enables developers to search for specific jobs or within command lines and to then save these searches in individual tabs for ease of use;
  • Enhanced navigation with new buttons that allow one-click jumps directly to problem areas in the build; and
  • Customizable build diagnostic reports.
