ElectricInsight® 3.0 Saves Build Managers Time and Resources Through Ability to Visualize Build Structure and Dependencies

The new version includes an enhanced user interface and more reporting capabilities that further improve users' ability to perform build diagnostics, impact analysis, and build optimization.

ElectricInsight provides unprecedented visibility into the structure of a build, down to the file level. It does this by mining the information produced by the ElectricAccelerator® software build tool to provide an easy-to-understand, graphical representation of the build structure for performance analysis. ElectricInsight provides detailed information and reports on each build, helping users identify which files are built, where file-level and registry dependencies lie, and which serializations cause bottlenecks for at-a-glance diagnostics. Instead of spending hours or days manually pouring over tens of thousands of lines of information in a build output file, error detection and performance tuning that once took hours or days can now be done in seconds.

Recently, a large semiconductor company's software development team had significant build problems that resulted in several missed production deadlines. After running a single build with ElectricInsight and ElectricAccelerator, the team was able to visualize the build output, and noticed a long chain of dependent steps that were built in sequential order, taking more than 20 minutes for this chain alone. ElectricInsight helped them see what the files were in the chain, and found that they were building their help files sequentially (English first, then German, then French, etc). This was a long-standing, but totally unnecessary serialization. By identifying this legacy dependency, they were able to disconnect these files and run them in parallel in less than 5 minutes.

Derived Files Analysis Report - View what outputs are affected when a specified file is changed. Even in the simplest application there are many interconnected files and components. This reports helps enumerate these connections and dependencies so you can better predict the impact of a single change.
Root Conflicts Report - Lists all root conflicts in the build. A root conflict is a conflict that was not caused by an earlier conflict. This report helps identify these conflicts, for improved troubleshooting.
Job Time Report - Which identifies where build time is spent, sorted by tool. This report identifies which tools are the most influential on build time, for easy optimization.
